Amanda I enjoyed your article very much!

I have no visibility of how schools operate in the USA but I can assure you that British independent (ie private fee paying) prep schools demand a hell of alot from parents. Parents are expected to be fully engaged. Dropping and picking up children at school is nothing. So much is packed into the weekly calendar that involve parents.

If your child or children are sporty then there are at least 2 matches to attend weekly to cheer your children and the school team on against other schools. Some of these matches take place on Saturdays. There are concerts to attend and before that a parent often has to drive their child for practise sessions on a Saturday. There are parent/teacher sessions to attend. Sports day to attend. If your child is musical there is the concert from the school orchestra to attend etc. etc.

On top of all the above, as parents, I am sure William and Catherine find themselves every other weekend driving one child to a birthday party, another to horse riding lessons, George for his flying lessons, another for a playdate with friends or cousins or with Grandpa and Grandma Middleton etc. etc. That is what William means when he says they become like taxi drivers for their children! I can identify with that!

It is totally understandable that with a young family of 3 William and Catherine just cannot put in Princess Annes and King Charles's 500 engagements a year. Charles and Anne have "empty nests" and frankly someone like Anne need those engagements to keep herself sane!

I honestly would not be surprised if the real reason that Catherine missed Ascot last year was that she had something that required her attention at the childrens school eg a parent/teacher session as opposed to feeling ill. Her mother and William would not have been so relaxed at Ascot if Catherine had been poorly.

I think that George will make the transition into secondary school very well. Both his parents experienced secondary boarding schools so I am sure they will prepare him well and ofcourse the media will leave him alone.

It was reported that Eton College - from last September I believe - banned all smart phones. All boys at the school have to leave their smart phones at home and are now given phones by the school that they can only text, recieve and make calls on. That can only be music to the ears of William and Catherine should they be eyeing up Eton for George.

Very good. I like your perspective.

I can't say I don't disapprove if their Royal Child rearing decisions and I dont really care if we don't know who drives them to school lol

But I am concerned that George is going to have to leave home for boarding. I don't like it fir any child. I don't think it builds good character
