The Freedom Meghan Sussex Claims—And You Can, Too
"flattery and criticism go down the same drain"
The Duchess of Sussex gave her first-ever podcast interview this week—to IT Cosmetics founder (“and friend”) Jamie Kern Lima, who became L’Oréal’s first female CEO when she sold her brand to the company in 2016…for $1.2 billion. Kern Lima, in the middle of promoting her book Worthy, also appeared on Meghan’s “Confessions of a Female Founder” this week.
In the 75-minute episode, Meghan, our millennial Queen of the moodboard, reflects on a quote that she hung in her trailer while filming Suits, which read: “I’ve already settled it for myself, so flattery and criticism go down the same drain, and I’m quite free.”
On a production level, she explains, internalizing that quote means that she can detach from the outcome of her decisions. She can simply “show up and put good work out there,” regardless of how it is ultimately received.
But it’s on the personal level where the challenge really begins.
