Since the final installment of the Netflix series The Crown last week, I’ve seen an uptick in comments from followers who are “patiently waiting” for my take on it. And I get it, I do! I’m a creator who’s always been focused on the historical context that informs our modern views—and the same can probably be said of the makers of The Crown.
But I did not count down the days until the sixth and final season dropped (either the first installment or the second—a trend in streaming media that I abhor. Either feed us episodes week-to-week, or let us binge the entire season and be done with it.) And since all the episodes have been available, I haven’t at any point been eagerly seated on my sofa with an elegant bowl of popcorn and a glass of wine in hand, ready to consume them.
There are a few reasons for this; honestly, just one of them on their own would likely not have been enough to keep me away from the finale entirely. But the combination of them has just made me unenthused about finishing The Crown—which is quite the contrast from how I once devoured this show.
